Sega Model 3 is a high-performance arcade platform introduced in 1996. Its advanced 3D hardware delivered detailed characters, environments and animation in games such as Virtua Fighter 3, Scud Race and Daytona USA 2, making it one of the most visually impressive arcade systems of its era.
What was Sega Model 3?
Sega Model 3 is the arcade system board Sega unveiled at the 1996 AOU show. It was developed in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, runs on a PowerPC processor, and on release was the most powerful arcade system board in existence. Sega released it in several “steps”, each with improved specifications.
The first game to run on it was Virtua Fighter 3. In 1998 Sega followed it with Sega NAOMI, which launched at one-third of the Model 3’s price.

Four Sega Model 3 light-gun games, including The Lost World: Jurassic Park and The Ocean Hunter, are on the Sega Model 3 light-gun list. Dual light guns come standard on the Final Boss and are an upgrade on most other cabinets; the light-gun games page shows which.
